Sarah Potts - Violin 2

At the age of 7, Sarah began to learn the violin after many years watching her sister. She was soon playing in the National Children’s Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra of Wales and obtained grade 8 with distinction aged 13 studying under Harry Cawood. Whilst still at school, Sarah led her school orchestra to success at the National Festival of Music for Youth, and with her quartet, gained a highly commended position at the same festival.

After leaving school she attended Trinity College of Music in London studying the violin with Gillian Findlay for her BMus (Hons). Whilst at college Sarah’s love for orchestral and chamber music continued to grow playing in many ensembles both in and outside of college, including The Tempus ensemble, The Marcel Sinfonia and the Guildhall Symphony orchestra. During this time, Sarah also developed her viola skills and is now a regular freelance viola player as well as on the violin and has played in venues such as St. Johns Smith Square, The Royal Festival Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room.

Whilst still at College, Sarah started to give instrumental lessons and this led into a full time role with both the Tower Hamlets and Enfield education authorities. Sarah then started to run the Wider Opportunities government initiative for Enfield Council, teaching whole class instrumental lessons to junior school pupils. This inspired Sarah to study for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and in 2008 she became a full time class music teacher. She is now Assistant Director of Music at a private girls school in South London.
